Welcome to my website!

I am an associate professor in the Department of Political Science at University College London (UCL) and co-head of the "Democracy and Peace" programme of UCL's new Policy Lab. I am also the author of Mobilization and Conflict in Multiethnic States (Oxford University Press, 2019).

I received my Ph.D. in political science from ETH Zürich in 2014 and was subsequently a visiting postdoctoral research associate at Princeton University. My research and teaching revolve around contentious politics at the intersection of international security and comparative politics, with a particular focus on multiethnic societies. I am also interested in the role of ideology in political conflict and study the origins of elite networks and their impact on political order. You can find my Google Scholar page here and my current CV here.

Outside the academic world, I worked as a German language teacher for adult immigrants in Switzerland for over ten years, and volunteered as a social worker in an institution for street children in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, from 2008 to 2009. For more than twenty years, I have been traveling extensively throughout the world, but most enthusiastically in Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East.
